In business too we need to list tasks in order of priority. But beware that we don’t exclude certain things because of this. When most people think of priorities, they think of this or that. They think about which choice they will make, and as a result, what will go undone. Prioritization is often associated with making sacrifices and only being able to do some of the really good things we would like to do. The other way to think of these things is in an "and" world. How do I create more market share and drive down costs? The 'and' situation applies to all of us Each of us, in all of our individual endeavors, needs to consider the important ands of our businesses. As our global connectivity increases, there is no more hiding in one corner of the world. We are an interconnected globe, and we all need to learn to act as such. The ability to understand, identify, and relate to multiple stakeholder groups and maintain these multiple perspectives is one of the most important ands we can have for our world. 10/05/09Saying Yes and NoLink: http://www.gaian.com Saying Yes and No The way we use yes or no can determine the outcome of many projects we engage in through life. We need to send very clear messages to ourselves and to the universe as to what we really want and deserve. It is a clear and simple act to say yes to these things in life. Whatever we say yes to in life, we get more of it. Part of the art of leadership is beginning to understand the things to which you are saying yes and how you are saying it. 'No' is not always good Often people talk a lot about what they don’t want and how they are going to get rid of it. That is very important and is, in fact, a prerequisite to be able to attain anything. We want to get as much of the good stuff in life as we can while avoiding as much of the bad stuff. This actually focuses your attention on the negative condition and increases the likelihood that you will get more of it. We talk about this, in simple terms, as writing a goal in toward language rather than away from. 09/28/09How good are you at Commitment?Link: http://www.gaian.com How good are you at Commitment? We all make commitments - in business, in sport, in marriage and elsewhere. The degree of success we enjoy as an inspirational leader is largely determined by our level of commitment. Recognizing and honoring commitment allows you to choose your actions. You need great commitment but in the right areas A person can be committed to indifference or committed to ambiguity. A person who is having trouble deciding what he wants to do can be committed to indecision or committed to struggling. What if every action people took was because they were committed to that path? Consider how that would change your view of them. Fine tune your commitment If you are not getting what you think you want, you must find the areas of commitment that you want to shift. Until you become aware of them, they remain invisible forces that can keep you from moving in desired areas. Begin by acknowledging that you are absolutely committed to everything in your life, exactly as it is right now. The question is, do you want to be? If you are not getting what you want in life and are, instead, getting things you don't want, you must look at how your are committing yourself. 09/21/09Secrets of CommunicatingLink: http://www.gaian.com Secrets of Communicating There are definite do and don’t behaviors when communicating with an individual or group. Go the do part right and eliminate the don't part and your ability to communicate effectively will skyrocket. Communication is an essential part of any inspirational leader. Communicating is building a system of rapport between people, and that requires healthy amounts of paying attention to the other person's wants and needs. If we turn our intention into an agenda, we run the risk of shutting out other people. It's all about our intention Make it a practice to consistently be as clear as possible about your intentions for all of the things you do on a daily basis. Think about your intention in writing an email. Think about your intention in reading an email. Think about your intention when you greet a receptionist or the server in a restaurant. Think about your intention when you say hello to significant people in your life. Whatever it is, the greater degree to which we can bring up our "anticipated outcomes" and make them consciously our own, the more effective, dynamic, and powerful we will be in the world. 09/14/09Create your Own SuccessLink: http://www.gaian.com Create Your Own Success It's quite simple. What you expect to happen often does. If you anticipate failure, it happens. If you are positive and expect success your chances of being successful improve and improve immensely. Intention is defined as "an anticipated outcome that guides your planned actions." Many people don't realize how much this plays out on a daily basis. For instance, how often have you seen a person (maybe yourself) walk into a situation expecting a negative outcome? Result? A negative outcome. The law of attraction This states that whatever we think about, believe, and focus our energy on is what we create for our lives-and it is important in our daily practice of life to know how to use this law. We get to be a leader when we add the power of our own dynamic presence, when we see the highest possible anticipated outcome and use ourselves in the moment to create that outcome. This is when we transform a passive wish into a clear intention. It is really a question of consciousness and choice. As a leader, it is a requirement that we get very clear about the anticipated outcomes that we are carrying around. |
